According to the patient's family, since 2010, the patient found a tumor as big as the tip of the thumb on the right cheek, her family took her to a hospital in Ha Tinh province but could not afford to treat it. The patient was infected with Agent Orange, gave birth to 2 children, and both died early, so the two grandparents took care of each other).
After that, the tumor grew slowly, but from September 2019, the tumor suddenly grew rapidly in size, pressing on the facial organs, causing difficulty breathing, loss of vision in the right eye.
The patient was discovered by charities and supported with funding for treatment. The patient entered the National Burns Hospital on December 2, 2020, in a weakened state, weighing only 38kg.
Through the examination, Assoc. Prof. Dr. Vu Quang Vinh, Director of Center for Plastic and Reconstructive Surgery, Le Huu Trac National Burn Hospital (Military Medical Academy) said that the patient's facial tumor was huge. The nucleus is 12x14cm in size, occupies the right half of the face, and grows large in many directions.
In particular, the tumor pushed the right nostril, right eye, and jaw area, completely obstructing the right nose, and pushed the right eyeball, causing vision loss. The tumor surface is highly vascularized.
CT scan results showed that the tumor was pushing and growing into the maxillary sinuses, nasal sinuses and spreading to the base of the skull. The two main sources of blood supply are the right facial artery and the right maxillary artery. The results of preoperative pathology, the patient had fibrovascular tumors. In addition, the patient also had hypertension, atrial fibrillation, untreated, tricuspid and aortic valve regurgitation, aortic hypertension.
The patient had an inter-hospital consultation with the specialties of Viet Duc Hospital, Military Hospital 103, Central Hospital of Odonto-Stomatology.

Doctors conduct consultations with patients before surgery
Leading experts discussed and analyzed the pathological characteristics, risks and treatment methods before, during and after surgery. Doctors decided to embolize the tumor before performing parallel surgery to treat cardiovascular conditions.
On January 4, 2021, the patient was performed embolization at the AM19 department, 103 hospital. Meanwhile, to prepare for the operation, the National Burn Hospital reserved specialized drugs and supplies. , blood, plasma.
On January 11, the patient underwent surgery to remove the tumor and reconstruct the face. The patient is anesthetized under the coordination of many specialists. The two teams involved in the surgery included doctors from Le Huu Trac National Burn Hospital and Viet Duc Hospital.
First, the doctors performed a dissection of the tumor, stopped bleeding, the tumor grew strongly, causing atrophy of the eyeball, compressing the right upper jaw bone and right cheekbone. The second surgical team processed bones, teeth, cut cheekbones and reconstructed the face.
Doctors spent 5 hours operating on this case. The patient was transfused with more than 1.5 liters of blood and plasma.
The post-operative pathology results were myocarcinoma. The patient was transferred to the Emergency Department for treatment and intensive care for 7 days, maintaining control of blood pressure, atrial fibrillation, adjusting blood sugar, electrolytes, albumin supplements, rehabilitation exercises.
The patient was weaned off the ventilator and removed the breathing tube after 3 days.

Assoc. Prof. Dr. Vu Quang Vinh and colleagues from Center for Plastic and Reconstructive Surgery / National Burn Hospital, performed surgery on a female patient.
For this case, Assoc.Prof.Dr. Vu Quang Vinh said that, in the past 6 months, the patient had a fast-growing tumor, if more patients were left, there would be many life-threatening complications.
Moreover, the old woman had many underlying diseases such as: hypertension, open heart valve ... so the risk of complications during surgery due to atrial fibrillation leading to death on the operating table is high. Fortunately, the patient was successfully operated on.
The patient is now awake, has good contact, the incision is healed, and is walking and working as usual.
Basically, the patient has created a relatively balanced face with the remaining bone and soft tissue structures after the tumor is removed.
If the patient is in good health, he or she can proceed to shape the upper jaw bone, implant the implant to help eat and chew better.
